Negara Brunei Darussalam, more commonly referred to as Brunei, is a country in Southeast Asia on the island of Borneo. Its land borders are exclusively with Malaysia and its maritime borders are in the South China Sea. It is rich in oil and natural gas.
The Sultan of Brunei is a member of the dynasty that has ruled Brunei since the 15th century and is Brunei’s head of state and government. The Sultan is assisted in his decisions by a council of ministers and his personal advisers, although the Sultan ultimately decides everything himself. The country’s mass media is extremely pro-government, with the ruling family enjoying almost divine privileges in the country. There is no elected parliament in Brunei. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah convened an appointed parliament in September 2004, which had not met since independence in 1984.
There are less than 400,000 people in the country who do not have to pay taxes, as everything is sustainable without them. Medical care is free, the state also provides housing and subsidises the price of rice. So it is no wonder that so many people in the Islamic State respect and worship their beloved leader.
70% of the country is uninhabited, with protected forests and national parks, and a tropical, subtropical climate. The wildlife is quite unique, and that’s why most tourists come to Brunei. Tourism is being heavily developed, for similar reasons to the Arabs, as oil reserves are finite.
